Attendance Matters!

Strong attendance builds strong Wildcats! Research is clear: missing just a few days—whether excused or unexcused—can impact learning, confidence, and long-term success. ๐๐พ
Here are 6 powerful facts about school attendance:
1๏ธโฃ By 6th grade, chronic absence becomes a leading indicator that a student may drop out.
2๏ธโฃ Missing too many days can keep students from reading on grade level by 3rd grade.
3๏ธโฃ Excused and unexcused absences both affect learning the same way.
4๏ธโฃ More than 8 million students nationwide miss nearly a month of school each year.
5๏ธโฃ When students improve attendance, they improve their chances of graduating.
6๏ธโฃ Students who miss 2–4 days in September are much more likely to miss nearly a month of school overall.

Good school attendance builds strong Wildcats from the very start. When students show up consistently, they stay on track for success — not just in school, but in life. ๐พโจ
Good school attendance helps students…
๐ Elementary: read well by the end of 3rd grade
๐ Middle School: pass their core classes
๐ High School: stay on track for graduation
๐๏ธ College: earn their degrees
๐ผ Adulthood: succeed in the workplace
But too many absences — excused or unexcused — can quickly knock students off track.
How many is too many? Missing just 10% of the school year (that’s 18 days, or just 2 days a month) can impact learning, confidence, and long-term success.
Let’s work together to help every Wildcat show up, grow, and thrive — every single day! ๐๐

๐๐ Attendance Matters — and So Does Staying Home When Sick! ๐๐
To keep our Wildcats healthy and learning, here’s a quick guide on when students should stay home and when they’re okay to return. ๐พโจ
Keep your child home if they have:
๐ค Fever over 100°F (must be fever-free for 24 hours without medication)
๐คข Vomiting (even once)
๐จ Diarrhea
๐ฅถ Chills or body aches
๐ด Extreme fatigue or weakness
๐ฌ Frequent congested or croupy cough
Consider keeping them home for rest if they have:
๐คง Very stuffy/runny nose or cough
๐ฃ Mild sore throat (without fever)
๐ค Headache
๐คข Stomachache
Healthy habits to prevent illness:
๐งผ Wash hands often
๐
โ๏ธ Avoid touching eyes, nose, mouth
๐ท Cover coughs/sneezes and wash hands after
๐ซ Avoid close contact with those who are sick
Keeping sick students home helps protect all Wildcats and keeps classrooms healthy and strong. ๐๐

When children don’t show up for school regularly, they miss out on essential reading and math skills — and they miss the chance to build positive attendance habits that last all the way into college and careers. ๐โจ
Who can read on grade level after 3rd grade?
The answer depends heavily on attendance in Kindergarten and 1st grade:
๐ 64% of students with good attendance (missing 9 or fewer days both years)
๐ 43% of students with at-risk attendance (missing more than 9 days both years)
๐ 41% of students chronically absent in one early year (missing 18+ days in one year)
๐ 17% of students chronically absent in both years (missing 17+ days each year)
Strong attendance now builds strong readers later — and strong Wildcats for life. ๐พ

โ๏ธ 40 hours of math & ELA (elementary)
๐ 18 hours of math & ELA (secondary)
๐ 1.5 years of school from K–12
๐ When a student misses 4 days a month, they lose:

โ๏ธ 80 hours of math & ELA (elementary)
๐ 36 hours of math & ELA (secondary)
๐ 3 years of school from K–12
