Godley High School girls soccer coach Kasie Welborn was named Coach of the Year by Texas Association of Soccer Coaches following a historic season for the Ladycat soccer program in 2026.

Welborn led Godley to one of the most successful seasons in school history, guiding the Ladycats to the UIL Class 4A Division II state semifinals and establishing the program among the top teams in Texas. Godley finished as district runner-up in District 6-4A before putting together an impressive postseason run that showcased the team’s discipline, toughness and ability to rise in big moments.

The Ladycats opened the playoffs with a 5-1 bi-district victory over Academy, followed by a 3-2 area-round win against Lake Worth and then earned a hard-fought 1-0 shutout over Graham in the regional semifinal. Godley followed with one of its strongest performances of the season in a 4-0 victory over Greenwood to claim the regional championship and advance to the state tournament.

Godley’s memorable season concluded with a narrow 2-1 loss to Sunnyvale in the state semifinal, but not before the Ladycats secured four playoff victories, a regional title and a place in program history. 

“Welborn’s Coach of the Year honor reflects far more than wins and championships,” commented Superintendent Dr. Rich Dear. “It recognizes the leadership, preparation and culture she continues to build while helping student-athletes grow on and off the field. Her recognition is another sign of the continued rise and success of the Ladycat soccer program.”
