The TSA high school chapter is sponsored by GHS career and technical education teacher Lindsay Simmons. Teams were also assisted by teacher Adria Gonzalez and Erik Walla.

For GMS, Garcia-Robles helped establish the middle school chapter as part of his senior project.

Results for the GMS students were:

  • Problem solving (middle school) — Hunter Cosper and Noah Pittman, 1st (advanced to state); Anthony Azpeitia and Wyatt Shannon, 2nd (state alternates); Santino Morales and Alayna Santos, 3rd (state alternates).

The six GMS students swept the top three spots in their first year of competition. Although all three teams qualified under scoring criteria, TSA rules allow only one team per chapter to advance to state.

“Establishing the middle school TSA chapter was part of a senior project, making the sweep an especially impressive accomplishment in the program’s inaugural year,” said Garcia-Robles.

With the motto “Learning to Lead in a Technical World,” TSA fosters personal growth, leadership and opportunities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Members apply and integrate these concepts through co-curricular activities, competitions and related programs.

The TSA state conference and competition is scheduled for April 9-11 at the Fort Worth Convention Center.
