Godley ISD hired Caleb Spoon as the new head boys basketball coach at Godley High School. He will begin leading the Wildcats program with the 2026-27 school year.

Spoon comes to Godley from Katy High School, where he advanced through multiple coaching roles before serving as associate head coach. Along the way, he worked with athletes at the freshman, junior varsity and varsity levels while helping lead player development, scouting, game preparation and daily program operations. Outside athletics, Spoon is also a mathematics teacher who has taught students in both Breckenridge and Katy. 

A former standout player at Hardin-Simmons University, Spoon was a 1,000-point scorer, a two-time conference champion and set school records for 3-pointers made in a game, season and career.  He also earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics education from the Abilene university.

GISD Athletic Director Danny Dudgeon, who coached Spoon during his high school playing career at Breckenridge High School, said the new coach’s character, basketball knowledge and leadership make him an outstanding fit for the Wildcats program.

“We are very excited to have Caleb join us,” Dudgeon said. “From the privilege of coaching Caleb in high school and seeing him set multiple 3-point records, to now being a successful coach who leads with great integrity and intention, he will be a wonderful addition to the Wildcat family.”

Spoon succeeds Jason Hill, who recently announced his retirement from basketball coaching and will remain with Godley athletics as the district’s head golf coach.
