The Godley ISD Board of Trustees reviewed district goals, student wellness initiatives and policy updates during its regular meeting on July 20, 2026, at Godley High School.

Trustees received an update on the district's House Bill 3 (HB 3) goals and District Improvement Plan (DIP), highlighting progress made during the 2025-26 school year and priorities for 2026-27. Administrators reported the district met its goals of increasing staff participation in the annual climate survey, with participation rising from 24% to 64%, and improving student attendance by 0.88%, exceeding the district's 0.5% target. 

For 2026-27, district goals include achieving a three-point increase in overall academic performance on the state accountability system across all grades and subjects, increasing positive staff responses on the district climate survey by 5% through targeted professional learning and staff recognition efforts, and improving student attendance by an additional 0.25% while continuing to promote a safe, supportive learning environment. 

Trustees also reviewed updated five-year HB 3 goals for third-grade reading and mathematics proficiency and college, career and military readiness.

Board members received the annual report from the School Health Advisory Council (SHAC), highlighting the committee's work during the 2025-26 school year to promote student health and wellness. Major accomplishments included updating the district's wellness plan, reviewing health education across all grade levels, evaluating student physical and mental health initiatives, strengthening community partnerships, reviewing human sexuality education in accordance with state law, and monitoring child nutrition programs and federal nutrition requirements.

The SHAC also presented recommendations for the 2026-27 school year, including implementing the Serenity House Impact Youth Prevention Program at all elementary campuses. Additional recommendations included continuing to explore expanded healthcare career opportunities for students through the high school College and Career Fair, strengthening partnerships with community organizations to expand student health and mental health services, and considering an opt-out process, when legally permissible, for certain health-related programs while continuing to provide parents with advance notification and information.

Following a second review, trustees adopted Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Policy Update 127, which includes recommended revisions to local district policies to reflect changes in federal and state laws, administrative rules and court decisions. The update is intended to keep the district's policy manual current and compliant with evolving legal requirements.

In executive session, trustees reviewed the District Audit Report (DAR), the district's comprehensive school safety and security assessment required by the Texas Education Agency every three years. The audit evaluates campus and district safety and security practices, measures compliance with state requirements, and identifies opportunities to strengthen emergency preparedness and enhance school safety. 

In personnel, trustees approved employment of a chief financial officer and an assistant principal for Godley High School.

Other action by the board included:

• Financial, Investment and Cash Reports: Trustees reviewed the district's monthly financial, investment and cash reports, providing an overview of the district's fiscal condition, investment activity and cash balances. 
• Library Materials for Purchase: Trustees approved proposed library materials in accordance with state law, which requires proposed library acquisitions to be made available for public review for at least 30 days before board approval of the purchase. The list was posted on the district website prior to consideration for purchase.
• 2026-27 Student Code of Conduct: Trustees adopted the Student Code of Conduct for the 2026-27 school year. The code outlines expectations for student behavior, disciplinary procedures and standards for maintaining a safe and orderly learning environment. No revisions were recommended because there were no legislative changes requiring updates during the current non-legislative year.
• 2026-27 Student Handbooks: Trustees reviewed the student handbooks and campus-specific handbook sections for the 2026-27 school year. The handbooks provide campus procedures and information for students and families and supplement the district's Student Code of Conduct.
• 2026-27 School Health Advisory Council Membership: Trustees approved the recommended membership for the 2026-27 School Health Advisory Council (SHAC). The council, composed of parents and district staff, advises the Board of Trustees on student health, wellness, safety and health education in accordance with state law.
• Hill College Dual Credit MOU: Trustees approved the memorandum of understanding with Hill College to continue providing dual credit opportunities for Godley High School students. The agreement supports a high school partnership model that allows students multiple entry and exit points for earning college credit while in high school.
• Good Cause Exceptions for School Safety Requirements: Trustees adopted a resolution requesting Good Cause Exceptions for Godley ISD and the Johnson County Special Services Association (JCSSA) related to certain state school safety requirements. The resolution requests a state-approved exception because current funding does not support placing an armed security officer at every campus while affirming the district's continued commitment to maintaining student safety.
• Johnson County Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program (JJAEP) MOU: Trustees approved a memorandum of understanding with the Johnson County Juvenile Board for participation in the Johnson County Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program. The agreement continues the partnership between local school districts and the juvenile justice system to provide educational and rehabilitative services for students assigned to the program through July 31, 2027.

The board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 17.
