National School Counseling Week Feb. 5-9, 2024

"School Counseling: Standards-Based, Student-Focused " is the theme of the National School Counseling Week, which is being celebrated February 5-9, 2024.

The American School Counselor Association (ASCA), which is affiliated with the Texas School Counselor Association (TSCA) and Texas Counselor Association (TCA), sets aside the first week in February to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems and how students are different as a result of what school counselors do.

The special week provides recognition for school counselors who implement comprehensive programs, a vital part of the educational process for all students as they meet the challenges of the 21st century.

"School counselors work with all students to remove barriers to learning by addressing students’ academic concerns, career awareness in post-secondary options and other skills,” said ASCA executive director Jill Cook.  “School counseling programs help to increase student achievement and provide a much-needed resource for students, parents, teachers and administrators. School counselors are integral to student success.”

Godley ISD school counselors are:

  • Godley High School:  Bailey Copeland, Danielle Harper

  • Godley Middle School:  Wendy Fisk

  • Godley 6th Grade Campus and LINKS Academy:  Danelle Sellers

  • Legacy Elementary School:  Stephanie Moss

  • Pleasant View Elementary School:  Mistie Havlak

  • R.B. Godley Elementary School:  Angie Molinari

The counselors are active in supporting student achievement and providing guidance lessons on building good character and other topics like bullying prevention.  They also lead groups of students to solve problems, sponsor evening events to promote higher education, participate in intervention programs and coordinate testing and other student services.
