The Godley ISD Board of Trustees received several informational updates during its meeting on April 20, 2026, including reports on new classroom materials, a proposed hybrid learning option for high school students, after-school care services and new tools to help families monitor student devices.

Chief Academic Officer Dr. Nikki Nix updated trustees on the district’s ongoing review of new math instructional materials that fully align with state learning standards. A district committee of educators is reviewing approved resources and will make a recommendation for future use in classrooms. The goal is to ensure teachers and students have strong, easy-to-use materials that support learning and academic success.

Dr. Nix also shared an update on the proposed Godley ISD Hybrid Program for high school students. The proposal would give eligible juniors and seniors the opportunity to take up to two classes online while remaining enrolled in Godley ISD and participating in school activities and programs. The idea is to provide families with more flexibility while keeping students connected to the district and maintaining strong academic expectations. The proposal remains under review, and no final decision has been made.

Regarding the district’s partnership with the YMCA for after-school care services, Chief Human Resources Officer Dr. Melissa Block reported the district has completed its second successful year for the elementary programs. In addition to daily after-school care, the YMCA also offers child care on some staff development days, during select school breaks and will provide a summer camp for the second year in a row.

Chief Technology Officer Marty Oliver updated trustees on the rollout of a new parent app through the district’s digital safety system. The Qustodio parent app, provided through Linewize, gives families tools to help monitor and manage their child’s school-issued device. Parents can view activity, set controls and better supervise device use whether students are at school or at home. Oliver said the program is designed to strengthen digital safety and help families partner with schools in teaching responsible technology use.

Trustees adopted a resolution reaffirming the district’s commitment to military-connected students and families. The resolution recognizes the unique challenges military families may face, including deployments, relocations and transitions, while emphasizing support services, strong school partnerships and resources available through the district’s military family webpage.

The board received the required annual report on school bus seat belt costs and determined that retrofitting the district’s fleet with three-point seat belts is not financially feasible at this time. The report showed 21 buses without seat belts, one bus with two-point seat belts and 16 buses with three-point seat belts. The estimated cost to equip all buses with three-point seat belts was approximately $775,000.

In personnel, trustees approved the hiring of Gery Moreno as principal for Godley Middle School, Laura Matos as GMS assistant principal, Louanna Kissel as assistant principal for Godley 6th Grade Campus, and Taylor High as head girls basketball coach and assistant athletic director. The board also approved contract renewals.

Board members approved the 2025-26 Teacher Incentive Allotment spending plan. While the district does not currently designate teachers through the program, educators who earned designations in other districts may bring those designations with them until they expire, requiring districts to distribute funds according to an approved plan.

Trustees approved temporary hiring authority for the superintendent through August 2026 for positions below the assistant principal level. District leaders said the spring and summer hiring season is highly competitive, with many teachers receiving multiple offers and accepting positions quickly. The temporary authority allows Godley ISD to move faster in securing qualified staff while leadership positions will continue to require board approval.

• Governance and Board Operations: Approval of minutes from a previous meeting, adoption of board meeting dates for the 2026-27 school year, and the annual report on trustee continuing education hours.
• Finance and Purchasing: Approval of financial and investment reports, budget amendments, the annual review and adoption of the district’s investment policy and strategy, designation of the audit firm for the 2025-26 fiscal year, awarding bids to vendors, renewal of purchasing cooperative agreements to expand buying power and lower costs, approval of the updated 2026-27 Federal and State Purchasing Manual (EDGAR), including new purchasing thresholds, and adoption of the prevailing wage schedule for the 2026-27 fiscal year.
• Teaching and Learning: Approval of the Region 11 Education Service Center contract for discounted instructional resources and classroom support, approval of library materials with two books set aside for review by a district committee, approval of innovative courses for the 2026-27 school year to expand student opportunities beyond the standard curriculum, and annual certification that students have access to required instructional materials aligned to Texas standards.
• Safety and Security: Discussion of a three-year safety audit review.

The board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for Monday, May 18.
