Godley ISD school board trustees held a special workshop for Team of Eight training on December 1, 2025, at Godley High School.

A representative from the Region 11 Education Service Center presented an overview of major education-related legislation approved during the 89th Texas Legislature. The update summarized new laws across five areas: school safety and student health, assessment and instruction, district governance, school finance and human resources. The presentation also outlined action steps districts may need to take, including policy revisions, staff training, parent communication and implementation timelines extending into 2026 and beyond.

Most of the state-required training focused on the district improvement plan, which uses a needs assessment and other data to guide goals, projects and resource allocation. The plan aligns with the seven pillars of the Community-Based Accountability System (CBAS) and emphasizes priorities such as exceeding state accountability standards, ensuring highly qualified educators in every classroom, and improving student attendance by fostering a safe and supportive school environment.

District leadership presented an overview of the district’s academic, climate and attendance priorities for the 2025-26 school year. The presentation emphasized the district’s focus on data-informed decision-making and alignment with CBAS.

Leaders outlined the district’s Data Dive plan, which includes biweekly reviews of academic, climate and attendance data, along with quarterly campus data dive meetings. Trustees also received an explanation of the Texas Education Agency’s A-F accountability system, including how student achievement, school progress and closing-the-gaps indicators are calculated. The district’s goal is to increase its overall rating by three points to earn a B.

Administrators shared updates on the district’s walk-through system aligned with the Fundamental 5, ongoing staff climate surveys administered three times a year, and the professional learning mini-conference model launched this year. Survey participation trends and next steps for addressing staff feedback were also discussed.

The workshop highlighted the district’s efforts to improve attendance and reduce truancy by monitoring early warning systems, aligning attendance processes and using consistent intervention strategies. The district aims to increase overall attendance by 0.5%.

Overall, the training underscored the district’s commitment to using data, staff input and aligned systems to support student learning, strengthen campus climate and guide continuous improvement across all campuses.

The board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 15.
