Godley Independent School District - Empowering Students

Logo Title

Godley ISD school board trustees held a special meeting on July 30, 2025, at Godley High School.

Trustees adopted a new local policy opting out of a state provision providing for non-enrolled students to participate in University Interscholastic League (UIL) activities.  Under a new state law, all school districts were required to take action by Sept. 1 to opt out, although each district may opt in at a later time. The board stressed that the administration would engage in dialogue with local homeschool families about ways to partner for future participation.

The board action followed public comment from several community members as well as a presentation by athletic director Danny Dudgeon and fine arts director Joe Walker, who explained several equity issues related to academics and discipline as well as logistical and administrative concerns - mainly the short timeframe to establish local protocols as the start of the school year was eminent.

Board members adopted a local policy to comply with recently-adopted state legislation that prohibits district staff with assisting a student with “social transitioning,” which involves a person’s transition from the person’s biological sex at birth to the opposite biological sex through the adoption of a different name, different pronouns or other expressions of gender identity.  District staff are also prohibited from sponsoring a student club based on sexual orientation or gender identity.

The board also approved a memorandum of understanding with Alvarado ISD for commercial driver’s license (CDL) training and testing.  AISD, a state-certified as a third-party skills testing provider, will provide testing and training for GISD bus drivers and other staff who drive school buses.

School trustees will hold their next regularly scheduled board meeting on Monday, Aug. 18.
