Logo Title

Godley ISD school board trustees held their regular monthly meeting on December 15, 2025, at Godley High School.

Following a public hearing, trustees reviewed the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) report, which provides transparency into the district’s financial practices and compliance with state requirements. Based on fiscal year 2023-24 data, the district earned a “B – Above Standard Achievement” rating with a score of 88, reflecting strong financial management, timely reporting, compliance with debt and payroll obligations, a clean external audit and adherence to financial transparency standards.

Regarding facilities, the board approved a final change order for Phase III construction of the GHS fine arts wing. The project is complete and includes a $627,000 payment back to the district. Trustees also approved a contract to replace a portion of the Legacy Elementary School roof.

Board members approved campus improvement plans following the third presentation. The plans highlight key focus areas connected to the Community Based Accountability System (CBAS) framework. Developed around the hopes and dreams of the Godley community, CBAS measures district success and effectiveness. It celebrates achievements, identifies opportunities for growth, and integrates state accountability measures.

Trustees approved the purchase of library materials, with a list of books posted on the district website for 30 days. With the exception of one book to be reviewed, the list was approved and materials will soon be available in campus Centers for Learning Innovation.

Other reports included:

  • Maintenance Department: Assistant Director Juan Luna-Olivares said the grounds team maintains about 252 acres using a rotation system to manage workloads. He noted recent staffing additions and plans to hire another grounds worker before spring. Director Randy Thomas reported the department continues addressing HVAC, plumbing, electrical and other facility repairs. Using a digital work-order system, the team completed more than 320 service requests this fall.
  • Policy Update: Assistant Superintendent Jason Karnes presented the second reading of Policy Update 126, which includes local and legal policy changes recommended by the Texas Association of School Boards.
  • “Moonlighting” Bill: During a second review of House Bill 3372, Chief Human Resources Officer Dr. Melissa Block outlined state rules prohibiting certain administrators from receiving compensation from businesses or education entities that work with the district. Violations carry a $10,000 penalty. Some administrators may be exempt if the board approves a disclosed contract that poses no conflict, causes no harm to the district and is completed on personal time.

In other business, trustees approved minutes from the previous regular meeting, financial reports and budget amendments.

The board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 22.
