Godley ISD school board trustees held the regular monthly meeting on April 21, 2025, at Godley High School.

Board members approved a list of innovative courses for the 2025-26 school year that enable students to master knowledge, skills and competencies not included in the essential knowledge and skills of state-required curriculum. GHS courses include:  Acting for the Camera; Acting Methods; Advanced Floral Design; Advanced Video Game Programming; Agriculture Leadership, Research and Communications; Dramaturgy; Emergency Medical Technician - Basic; General Employability Skills; Integration of Abilities: Exercises for Creative Growth; Introduction to Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Flight (Drones); Peer Assistance and Leadership (PAL) I - II; Theater Management.

The board extended the Optional Flexible School Day Program (OFSDP) for the 2025-26 school year.  The initiative allows LINKS Academy to provide flexible hours and days of attendance for students who meet certain state requirements. The goal of the program is to improve graduation rates for students who are in danger of dropping out of school, have dropped out or are behind in core subject courses.

In personnel, board members renewed teacher contracts and approved adding additional full-time employees in designated positions should additional state funding be authorized during the current legislative session.  Trustees granted hiring authority for the superintendent during the hiring season for positions up to assistant principals.

Additional reports to the board included:

• Principal Jayme Duckett of Godley 6th Grade Campus made a presentation for the campus spotlight.
• Board president Craig Stevenson reported that all trustees have met and exceeded continuing education requirements for school board members.
• A preliminary budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year was discussed with Chief Financial Officer Spencer Davis.  The board will hold budget workshops in May and June to prepare for a change to the fiscal year, which will begin in July going forward.

The board approved minutes from recent meetings, financial reports and budget amendments.  Trustees also approved purchasing cooperative renewals, an annual contract with the Region 11 Education Service Center, the annual investment policy, a federal and state purchasing manual, and a resolution regarding a prevailing wage schedule for renovation work at 600 N. Pearson Street. Board members also extended a partnership with the YMCA of Metropolitan Fort Worth for the district’s after-school program at elementary campuses.

Trustees adopted a resolution in support of military-connected students and families.

Honored at the meeting were campus teachers and paraprofessionals of the year.  Also recognized were Godley High School girls soccer team, which advanced to the regional finals in the Class 4A Division II playoffs, and state-qualifying powerlifter Cristian Pallares.  In addition, G6 student council members were honored during the campus spotlight.

School trustees will hold their next regularly scheduled board meeting on Monday, Apr. 21.
