Godley ISD school board trustees held the regular monthly meeting on September 19, 2022, at Godley High School.

 

The board heard an initial presentation on the District Improvement Plan from Chief Academic Officer Dr. Airemy Caudle.  The draft document focuses on pillars from the Community Based Accountability System (CBAS).  Three pillars for the district’s focus this school year center on:  Engaged Well Rounded Students, Professional Learning and Effective Staff, and Safety and Well-Being.

 

The plan was developed with data from a survey of parents and staff members, testing assessments, and a comprehensive needs assessment outlining professional learning opportunities for teachers, student academic needs, and measures to ensure safe and secure learning environments.  Feedback and new data will allow for refinement of the plan for review by the District-wide Educational Improvement Council (DEIC) before adoption by the school board at a future meeting.

 

The board heard from Satterfield & Pontikes Construction Company regarding facility progress for Pleasant View Elementary School as well as projects at GHS.  Construction at the new elementary campus is moving forward.  Phase 2 projects at the high school include a four-story career and technical education center and a competition gymnasium.  Crews have focused on the foundation for the CTE center and prepped the site for the future athletic arena.

 

During public comment, trustees heard from one community member regarding the District Improvement Plan.

 

Reports to the board included:

 

• Superintendent Dr. Rich Dear announced that district enrollment currently totaled 2,809 students, marking an 8% increase over the 2021-22 school year.  In addition, attendance hovers around 95% for the current month.

• Technology progress was presented by director Marty Oliver.  ClassLink is now available as a single sign-on platform for students to access educational applications; quick cards are available for younger elementary students.  The technology department continues to focus on cybersecurity with phased-in implementation of two-factor authorization for staff logins.  Oliver also summarized technology usage statistics.

• Two new school buses are set for delivery and will be ready following the installation of cameras, Dr. Dear reported.

• The superintendent announced that the district will host Wildcat Talks, a family and community engagement event, on Thursday, Sept. 29 from 5:30-7 p.m. at Godley 6th Grade Campus.  There will be a free hot dog meal followed by a growth presentation, a panel discussion on campus security, and a period for questions.  All district parents and community members are invited to attend.

 

The board approved budget amendments, financial and investment reports, and an amendment to communications agreement with Johnson County. Trustees tabled the approval of minutes from the last regular meeting and took no action following the first review of a proposed policy change regarding emergency plans.

 

In other action, board members appointed members of the Student Health Advisory Committee (SHAC) for the current school year.  Trustees also adopted a resolution supporting a culture of voting to improve civic engagement and voter turnout among eligible students, employees, and community members.

 

School trustees will next meet on Monday, Oct. 24.  Board meetings are held at GHS, which is located at 9501 Highway 171.
