Godley ISD school board trustees heard an academic update during the regular monthly meeting on March 17, 2025, at Godley High School.

Chief Academic Officer Dr. Airemy Caudle reviewed the Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR) for the 2023-24 school year.  Caudle explained how the school district is implementing the school district’s Community-Based Accountability System (CBAS) and evaluating district progress in several ways. CBAS pillars also are incorporated into annual district and campus improvement plans.

Caudle explained the district goals and progress on these initiatives during the current school year:

• By May of 2025, 90% of students continuously enrolled in Godley ISD between October 1, 2024, and May 2, 2025, will achieve expected growth in literacy and numeracy as measured by state and local assessments (including but not limited to mClass, MAP, STAAR/ EOC, IRLA, and CBA) and teacher observation.
• By May 2025, a minimum of 70% of district communication (including but not limited to social media posts, ParentSquare messages, emails, and meeting agendas) will include the language of the Community-Based Accountability System pillars to help the staff, parents, and the community gain a clear understanding of the district’s mission vision and goals.
• By May 2025, the district will have written and implemented procedures to communicate and educate district stakeholders on the Safety and Well-Being resources (including but not limited to immunizations, conflict resolution, mental health, and wellness services) available to students, parents, and staff members.

Highlighted were over one thousand classroom walk-throughs combined with the “look ahead” protocol and professional learning community meetings used for teacher planning.  Caudle reported that 72% of students are showing growth in the 20th percentile or higher in math and that 73% of students are showing growth in the 20th percentile or higher in reading.

In personnel, board members renewed administrator contracts and approved adding additional full-time employees in designated positions should additional state funding be authorized during the current legislative session.  Trustees tabled action on hiring authority for the superintendent during the hiring season.

Trustees denied a Level 3 grievance filed by a community member.

Additional reports to the board included:

• Legacy Principal Tom Frazier made a presentation for the campus spotlight.
• Facility progress for Phase 2 high school projects including The WILD and GHS Arena was presented by Satterfield & Pontikes Construction.
• Godley High School Principal Kurtis Flood reviewed plans for high school graduation set for May 22 in Wildcat Stadium. The new backup venue is the high school arena.
• Trustees reviewed summer training options available through the Texas Association of School Boards for continuing education requirements.
• Chief Financial Officer Spencer Davis reviewed a proposed budget schedule and dates for budget workshops, public notices, and budget and tax rate adoptions.

The board approved minutes from recent meetings and financial reports.  Trustees approved a job order contract construction method for district property at 600 N. Pearson Street. 

Honored at the meeting were several students from R.B. Godley Elementary School, GHS and Legacy.  Recognized were the Legacy Wildcat Ambassadors, area spelling bee runner-up, Texas Association of Future Educators state contestants, a state swim competitor, varsity cheerleaders competing in state and national events, and the girls basketball regional finalist team.

School trustees will hold their next regularly scheduled board meeting on Monday, Apr. 21.
