Godley ISD school board trustees approved the continuation of the Tarleton Today dual enrollment program during the regular monthly meeting on January 23, 2025, at Godley High School.
Trustees approved a memorandum of understanding with Tarleton State University for the 2025-26 school year allowing Godley students to earn college credit through year-long classes and have the option to add it to a college transcript at the conclusion of the course. Tarleton provides training and stipends for GHS teachers, who lead the classes. About 50 students are currently taking current course offerings including college algebra, animal science and agricultural economics. The district is planning to move U.S. history and government classes into the program and is considering moving English courses.
Board members also approved a financial audit for the 2023-24 fiscal year completed by Snow Garrett Williams CPAs, which provided an “unmodified opinion” with no corrective actions regarding the school district’s finances. A copy of the report is available on the district website.
Also regarding financial management, trustees adopted a resolution to accept electronic submission of bids or proposals. Corresponding rules safeguard the integrity of the competitive procurement process; ensure the identification, security, and confidentiality of electronic bids or proposals; and ensure that the electronic bids or proposals remain effectively unopened until the proper time.
Trustees approved a recommendation from the School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) for a curriculum for students in grades 6-12 related to the dangers of opioids, including addiction to and abuse of synthetic opioids such as fentanyl. The required instruction in fentanyl prevention and drug poisoning awareness includes information on suicide prevention, prevention of the abuse and addiction to fentanyl, awareness of local school and community resources, and health education about youth substance use and abuse.
The board approved the academic year calendar for the 2026-27 school year. The calendar is available on the district website.
Board members called a trustee election for places 4 and 5 to be held on May 3, the state’s uniform election date. The trustees also reviewed updated board operating procedures for future consideration.
