Godley ISD Board of Trustees honored area spelling bee finalists, Godley High School state film festival students and student-athletes, and a National Board Certified Teacher during its monthly meeting March 16, 2026, at GHS.

Honored were campus spelling bee champions Isaiah Castro (R.B. Godley Elementary), Tucker Darnaby (Legacy Elementary) and McKenzie Gibbs (Pleasant View Elementary), who advanced to the area spelling bee. Each student qualified by winning their campus competition and represented the district among top spellers from across Johnson County.

Several GHS students were recognized for earning top honors at the UIL State Film Festival across multiple categories. The students were introduced by audio-visual teacher Ryan Tuomey. Their work advanced to state competition and was recognized among top entries in Texas. Collyns Hutson attended the meeting with family members and was recognized alongside fellow student filmmakers.

Introduced by coach Mark Chauveaux, members of the GHS Ladycat basketball team were recognized for their 2025-26 season, which included a playoff appearance and advancement to the area round. The Ladycats completed district play with a strong record and advanced to the postseason before their season ended in a close area-round game.

GHS swimmer Ryan McFarland, who was unable to attend, was recognized for qualifying for and competing in the UIL State Swimming and Diving Championships. McFarland advanced through district and regional competition to earn a spot at the state meet, competing against top swimmers in Class 4A.

Amy Rother, a teacher at Godley 6th Grade Campus, was honored as a National Board Certified Teacher. National Board certification recognizes accomplished educators and may qualify them for increased compensation through the state’s Teacher Incentive Allotment. Rother was unable to attend.

Family members, coaches, teachers and district staff joined those recognized during the meeting.
