Godley Independent School District - Empowering Students

Logo Title

Godley High School education practicum students heard from Godley ISD school board president Craig Stevenson during class on September 6, 2024.

Students, who are led by GHS teacher Dana Burke, had the opportunity to ask Stevenson about the operations of the school district - including challenges such as growth and finances.  Stevenson also addressed the roles and responsibilities of the locally elected board.

A part of the district’s career and technical education programs, the education and training program of study prepares learners for careers related to teaching, instruction and creation of instructional and enrichment programs.

Education and training is a career and technical education program at The WILD, the new four-story CTE center housing numerous programs with over 40 classrooms, learning spaces and student-led enterprises.

The practicum is the culmination of the pathway of courses with an internship that provides students with background knowledge of child and adolescent development as well as principles of effective teaching and training practices. Students learn to plan and direct individualized instruction and group activities, prepare instructional materials, develop materials for educational environments, assist with record keeping and complete other responsibilities of teachers, trainers, paraprofessionals or other educational personnel.

Some students expressed interest in pursuing a teaching career in Godley.  The school district’s “grow your own” initiative helps current paraprofessionals earn college degrees and become certified teachers. The partnership through Teachworthy and Indiana Wesleyan University provides both hands-on experience and on-the-job training.  Several program members are now full-time teachers in Godley.
