The Godley ISD Board of Trustees approved new leadership appointments for Godley Middle School during its meeting on April 20, 2026, naming Gery Moreno as principal and Laura Matos as assistant principal.

Godley Middle School plays a key role in preparing students for future success, and district leaders said the new hires will help strengthen the campus mission of student learning, student readiness and a positive school culture.

“Godley ISD is committed to attracting outstanding leaders who believe in the potential of every student and understand the importance of building strong relationships with staff, families and our community,” Superintendent Dr. Rich Dear said. “Gery Moreno and Laura Matos bring experience, passion and a heart for serving others. We are excited to welcome them to Godley Middle School and look forward to the impact they will have as we continue to grow and serve our students.”

Moreno joins Godley ISD with campus leadership experience in Crowley ISD, where he most recently served as principal in residence at Crowley Montessori Academy, a dual language campus. He also served as assistant principal at J.A. Hargrave Elementary and previously worked as a math instructional support specialist and bilingual classroom teacher. His experience includes instructional coaching, campus operations, staff development and leading academic growth initiatives.

A bilingual educator, Moreno holds a Master of Education in educational leadership from West Texas A&M University, a bachelor’s degree from Tarleton State University and an associate degree from Tarrant County College.

Matos currently serves as facilitator of learning and innovation at Godley High School, where she supports teachers by leading professional learning community meetings, guiding data analysis and working with campus leaders to strengthen classroom instruction and student engagement.

She brings more than 15 years of experience in secondary education, including instructional coaching, special education leadership and classroom teaching. Beginning her career in Cleburne, Matos later served in Crowley, Fort Worth and Eagle Mountain-Saginaw before returning to Cleburne prior to moving to Godley. She holds a Master of Education in educational administration from Lamar University and a bachelor’s degree from Tarleton State University.

The additions come as Godley Middle School continues to grow with increasing student enrollment. District leaders also announced plans to hire a second assistant principal to help support the expanding campus and continue strong service to students, staff and families.
