Long-time Godley High School agricultural science teacher Jack Rowland was inducted into the Agriculture Teachers Association of Texas Hall of Fame during the association’s Professional Development Conference on July 25-29, 2022, in Corpus Christi.

Rowland was among 54 former ag teachers in the hall of fame’s second class of inductees.

“Mr. Rowland’s teaching career is one of truly epic proportions,” said Lacey Bennett, the current GHS ag science teacher and Godley FFA sponsor.  “He has been a great influence on many in his role as ag teacher and community leader. Many of his students have gone on to become very successful leaders in agriculture, business, and government. Because of his influence, the Godley community has thrived throughout the years. There isn’t anywhere that I go that someone doesn’t ask about Mr. Rowland.”

In 2019, Godley ISD named the district’s ag facility after Rowland in honor of his service to GISD students for over 44 years.

Godley FFA will host a come-and-go reception in Rowland’s honor on Tuesday, Aug. 23 from 6-7 p.m. in the high school CLI.

“[Mr. Rowland] has dedicated his life to helping young men and women understand what it means to think clearly and work efficiently,” wrote Bennett in a nomination letter. “Mr. Rowland is the best choice for this award because he consistently displays our values of humanitarianism, honesty, and public service. To this day, Mr. Rowland willingly spends his free time volunteering in the community to further solidify the FFA organization's ties with the local community and its resources.”

According to the association, the hall of fame exists to recognize and honor agricultural science teachers whose careers, achievements, and contributions stand exemplary. Inductees are known as well-rounded professionals that have proven their success with FFA activities, in the classroom, as well as community involvement. They have proven their desire to provide students with opportunities for premier leadership, personal growth and career success over a significant period of time.
