Godley High School senior Ryan McFarland competed in two events at the UIL Class 4A state swim meet February 12-13, 2026, at North East ISD’s Josh Davis Natatorium in San Antonio. The meet marked his third consecutive appearance at the state competition.

In the boys 100-yard freestyle, McFarland finished eighth in the finals with a time of 49.97 seconds after posting a fifth-place preliminary time of 48.85 seconds. He also placed third in the boys 100-yard backstroke, recording a preliminary time of 55.45 seconds and improving to 55.02 seconds in the finals.

At the Region II meet Jan. 30-31, the GHS senior captured first place in the boys 100-yard freestyle with a finals time of 49.28 seconds, improving from his preliminary time of 50.49 seconds. He also won the boys 100-yard backstroke, posting a finals time of 55.40 seconds after swimming 57.71 seconds in the preliminary round. Based on his performances, McFarland was named the Region II-4A Individual Male Athlete of the Meet by the Texas Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association.

At last year’s state meet, McFarland finished ninth in the boys 100-yard freestyle preliminaries with a time of 50.61 seconds. He also placed ninth in the boys 100-yard backstroke preliminaries, posting a time of 58.53 seconds before improving to 57.73 seconds in the B finals.

As a sophomore, McFarland advanced to state in both the boys 200-yard freestyle and the boys 100-yard backstroke after competing at regionals, placing first and third, respectively.
