Longtime Godley ISD custodian Ray Guyer retired from the school district in October 2022 after 18 years of service.

Known affectionately as “Mister Ray,” the 85-year-old worked at every campus except for the high school.  Working at the elementary campus was his passion, though. His most recent assignment was R.B. Godley Elementary School.

Having “retired” a few times from the district previously, helping students drew Guyer back for more years.  He was even amused when former students showed up to bring their own children to school.

Guyer worked for several decades as a Teamster driver for Red Ball and Jones trucking companies.  After taking an early retirement from his first career, he moved on to the Godley school district in 2004. “This was the fun job,” he said.

The new retiree plans to stay busy with his six-acre homestead and his family, which includes two daughters, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
