Twelve Godley Ladycats received District 6-4A soccer honors following the 2023-24 season, which saw the Godley High School girls advance to postseason for the third time in the team’s short history.

Sophia Hodges was co-midfield most valuable player of the year, and Paige Palcic was named defensive most valuable player.  Kaylie Fabela earned honors as defensive newcomer of the year.  Both are GHS freshmen.

Others named to the district squad were:

  • 1st Team:  Morgan Cummings, Stephanie Favela, Jordyn Geesaman, Lexi Tyler

  • 2nd Team:  Audrey Bower, Cassie Capps, Elissa Castro

  • Honorable Mention:  Nola Briscoe, Sadey Hughey

Academic all-district honors went to Nola Briscoe, Bryanna Morales and Lexi Tyler, while Morales, a senior, was named academic all-state.

The Ladycats, runners-up in District 6, battled China Spring, the third-place team in District 5, in the Class 4A bi-district playoffs on Mar. 25, coming up short during a penalty-kick tiebreaker after dueling to a scoreless stalemate at the end of regulation and two ten-minute overtime periods. 

The Godley girls compiled a 8-2 district record going into the postseason matchup, marking the team’s third playoff appearance since the team’s founding in 2021. 

Starting off district play with losses 2-1 to Venus on Feb. 6 and 4-0 to Waxahachie Life, the Ladycats bounced back with consecutive wins the remainder of the season:  5-0 over Ferris on Feb. 13, 5-1 over Kennedale on Feb. 16, 1-1 and tiebreaker over Alvarado on Feb. 20, 1-0 over Venus on Feb. 23, 2-0 over Waxahachie Life on Feb. 27, 4-0 over Ferris on Mar. 1, 5-0 over Kennedale on Mar. 5, and 4-2 over Alvarado on Mar. 8.
