All-State Bree Hubbard TABC & TGCA

Three Godley Ladycat basketball players earned state basketball honors from coaching associations following the 2024-25 season.

Senior Bree Hubbard was named all-state by both the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches and the Texas Girls Coaches Association.  Last month, she announced plans to play for Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, where the Tigers compete in NCAA Division II as part of the Great American Conference.

The GHS senior earned TGCA all-state honors as well as TABC regional accolades the past two seasons. She was also named most valuable player on the All-Johnson County team this year.

Hubbard was on a roll as the Ladycats powered through District 12-4A action, setting new individual milestones with the Ladycat varsity basketball team - 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds - Hubbard accomplished something no other player has achieved in school history, according to head coach Mark Chauveaux.

Hubbard and the team’s other senior, Ava Wilson, both earned academic all-state recognition based on their leadership and classroom achievements.

Varsity teammate Kinley Smith was also named all-state.  In addition, the GHS junior was selected to play in the TGCA All-Star Game to be held during the association’s state clinic on Jul. 5 in Arlington.  She earned district first-team honors for the third-straight year and was named to the All-Johnson County first team this year.

In addition to Hubbard and Smith, others receiving All-Johnson County recognition were: Lila Heiner, co-sixth woman of the year; Presley Hindash and Kase Grimsley, first team; Sadey Hughey, second team.

The Godley girls posted a perfect 12-0 district record, sweeping all district foes through both rounds of play to earn the team’s third district title in a row.  Capturing the bi-district title on Feb. 10, the Ladycats defeated Wilmer Hutchins 65-21. The Godley girls then triumphed over Sanger 44-33 in the area round on Feb. 13 and North Lamar 37-34 in the regional semifinals on Feb. 18 before falling to Dallas Lincoln 62-41 in the regional final contest on Feb. 21.
