Godley Ladycats competed in the Class 4A soccer playoffs in a bi-district contest versus Brownwood on March 23, 2023, at Mineral Wells High School’s Ram Stadium.
The GHS girls battled back after a first-half deficit to tie the game 2-2 at the end of regulation. Both the Ladycats and Lady Lions dueled during two ten-minute overtime periods with the stalemate moving to penalty kicks. Brownwood emerged the victor after a one goal advantage.
“Our season has come to an end. I am beyond proud of this team. They fought a tough battle last night against an aggressive and seasoned Brownwood team,” commented GHS head coach Kasie Welborn. “Even with the heartbreaking loss, it will not negate the amazing work they did this season. The future is so bright. We will take some time, regroup, and come back stronger next year. I am honored to be the coach of these amazing ladies.”
Godley compiled a 14-1 record going into the postseason matchup, marking the team’s second playoff appearance since the team’s founding in 2021. The girls swept all District 6-4A foes, with a single loss coming to eventual district champ Waxahachie Life.
