The Godley Ladycat cross country team competed at the Class 4A cross country state championship on November 4, 2023, at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.

The GHS girls placed 15th place as a team.  Sophomore Sadey Hughey led the squad with a finish time of 12:41.30, placing 47th in the field of 152 runners.  Also on the team were sophomore Stephanie Favela (12:47.50), sophomore Sophia Hodges (13:24.10), freshman Kinzie Riney (13:30.80), sophomore Jordan Geesaman (13:38.10), senior Paola Diaz (13:46.10)  and sophomore Julyssa Ortiz (14:15.10).

To earn the state bid, the Godley girls placed fourth at the Region II-4A meet on Oct. 24 at Lynn Creek Park at Joe Pool Lake in Grand Prairie.  The first four teams and the top 10 individuals not already on one of the advancing teams qualify for state.  Favela (12:18.55) was the team’s top runner and placed 10th individually.

The Ladycat varsity squad qualified for the regional contest after winning the district championship on Oct. 9 in Waxahachie.  Favela was the district champion, with all seven girls placing among the top 14 runners.

Both Favela and Hughey competed at the state competition in 2022, when both were GHS freshmen.

The Ladycat cross country coach is Keith McFarland.
