The Godley Ladycats captured the District 10-4A softball championship with a road win over Venus to wrap up district play on April 19, 2024. This marks the third district title in a row for the Godley girls.
The GHS girls posted a perfect 10-0 district record, sweeping all district foes through both rounds of play.
In addition to the 17-0 win over Venus, scores during the second half of district action show the Godley varsity winning over Alvarado 15-0 on Apr. 6, Hillsboro 11-1 on Apr. 10, Kennedale 19-1 on Apr. 12, and Waxahachie Life 19-0 on Apr. 16.
During the first half, Ladycats bested Alvarado 15-0 on Mar. 19, Hillsboro 12-2 on Mar. 22, Kennedale 13-2 on Mar. 26, Waxahachie Life 15-0 on Mar. 28, and Venus 18-8 on Apr. 2.
For the bi-district playoff round, the district champions will face Fort Worth Carter-Riverside, the fourth-place team from District 9. For the best-of-three series, Carter-Riverside will host Game 1 on Thursday, Apr. 25 at 6pm. Game 2 will be Friday, Apr. 26 at 6pm in Godley. If necessary, the third game will follow Game 2. Admission is free to all games.
The varsity squad includes Samantha Andersen, Jordan Blakely, Harlee Bullard, Alyssa Castillo, Cadence Chambliess, Karlee Clark, Halle Gross, Saniya Hill, Bree Hubbard, Hayden Keeton, Alyson Meade, Alissa Sullivan, Bailee Wallis and Dakota Watson.
Junior varsity Ladycats also claimed the district championship with a perfect 10-0 record. Team members are Jordan Blakely, Harlee Bullard, Sophia Cadena, Rubi Chavira, Maeci Horton, Kori Iglehart, Emma Lindamood, Kara Moody, Laney Moss, Lauren Perez, Katie Ponce and Isabella Salmeron.
Head coach Rus Mayes is assisted by Kristi Mayes as well as athletic trainer Duke Graham. Team managers are Marissa Bethel, Saleece Hill and Ava Siddall.
