Godley Ladycats head softball coach Rus Mayes reached a major career milestone during the team’s 14-3 win over Kingsville at the Coastal Classic Tournament hosted by Ingleside High School on February 27, 2026.

The victory marked the 400th win of Mayes’ coaching career, coming as the Ladycats competed in the tournament while preparing to open District 12-4A play.

Mayes surpassed the 300-win milestone during his third year in Godley, when the Ladycats defeated Waxahachie Life 16-0 in three innings on April 5, 2022.

A native of Cleburne, Mayes previously served as head coach at Eastland and Stephenville and was also an assistant coach at Tarleton State University before coming to Godley in 2019. Mayes won 118 games in six seasons at Eastland and 154 games in eight seasons at Stephenville.

In November 2024, Mayes was among those honored during Tarleton’s Legends Game, which recognized the 2003 Texan Softball team where he served as an assistant coach.
