The Godley Ladycats saw their historic postseason run come to a close with a hard-fought 2-1 loss to Sunnyvale in the Class 4A Division II state semifinals on April 3, 2026, at Vernon Newsom Stadium in Mansfield.

Godley finishes the season with a memorable playoff run that included four consecutive postseason victories and the program’s first regional championship.

The Ladycats opened the playoffs with a 5-1 bi-district win over Academy, followed by a 3-2 area round victory against Lake Worth. Godley then advanced with a 1-0 regional semifinal win over Graham before capturing the regional title with a dominant 4-0 victory over Greenwood.

Finishing second in District 6-4A play, the Ladycats posted a 7-3 record to earn their postseason berth. The program, which began in 2021, continues to build momentum with multiple playoff appearances, including back-to-back deep postseason runs.

“I am beyond proud of these ladies,” said head coach Kasie Welborn. “They have not had an easy road. The end of district, and all of playoffs, this team faced some critical moments as players and honestly as humans…. They pulled through with grace and fortitude. That is what I am most proud of and most impressed by.”

The varsity Ladycats roster included Layla Balderas, Nola Briscoe, Kaylie Fabela, Stephanie Favela, Jordyn Geesaman, Griffin Gill, Sophia Hodges, Jordyn Hutt, Makenna Jaskolowski, Eden Kelly, Arynn Long, Tayla Monchamp, Denise Ortega, Julyssa Ortiz, Kinzie Riney, Rylie Graves, Rylee Swanson and Lexi Tyler. Team captains were Rylie Graves, Sophia Hodges and Lexi Tyler.

“These girls WORK! They gave me life and limb, and I couldn’t have asked for more. I am so proud of these girls, and to my 12 seniors… thank you for always giving me 115%!! What a year, ladies!!” Welborn said.

Welborn was assisted by Alice Brooks.
