Godley Independent School District - Empowering Students

Logo Title

Godley High School iLead students are gaining real-world experience in information technology, a career and technical education program at The WILD, the new four-story CTE center housing numerous programs with over 40 classrooms, learning spaces and student-led enterprises.

The program of study explores the occupations and educational opportunities associated with administering, testing and implementing computer databases and applying knowledge of database management systems. Students also analyze user requirements and problems to automate or improve and review computer system capabilities. Also included is the exploration into the research, design or testing of computer or computer-related equipment for commercial, industrial, military or scientific use.

“The iLead program has been such a great experience for me as a teacher and for the students,” commented GHS teacher Summer McIntyre, who collaborates with the Godley ISD technology department. “They get to experience the daily tasks and bumps in the road of a computer technician. Whether that's hearing about my past experiences as a computer technician or experiencing bumps themselves when completing a task for a fellow staff or student in the district.

The four-year sequence of courses begins with a principles class focused on developing computer literacy skills to adapt to emerging technologies used in the global marketplace and workplace environments.  That is followed by a computer maintenance class exploring information technology in business and industry and related issues such as environment, ethics, health and safety.

Third-year and fourth-year students enroll in practicums with students gaining knowledge and skills in computer technologies, including electrical and electronic theory, computer principles and components related to the installation, diagnosis, service and repair of computer-based technology systems.  Proper use of analytical skills and application of IT concepts and standards are essential in preparing students for success in a technology-driven society.

“No matter the crazy tasks we are handed, we always have fun and there's great memories made throughout the year as a class,” McIntyre commented.  “I couldn't be more thankful for the relationships built over this past year and a half because of the iLead program.”
