The Godley community united to honor Pleasant View Elementary School first grader Andrew Vinet and his family during Heart of Gold basketball games on January 28, 2025, in the Godley High School Arena.
The varsity games included a benefit to assist the Vinet family with medical expenses.
“Our Heart of Gold game was an amazing night,” commented organizer Kristi Mayes, who is a Godley basketball coach. “Our community is able to bless the Vinet Family with $21, 000 because of the generous hearts who donated goodies, bought shirts, purchased auction items, and made monetary donations. You guys rocked it! We can't thank you enough.”
Andrew, 6, was recently diagnosed with a cancerous golf ball-sized tumor discovered after an unrelated fall at school. The youngster is currently undergoing four rounds of chemotherapy and proton radiation treatment. Along with the cancer diagnosis, Andrew is also suffering from posterior fascia syndrome, which affected his motor skills.
