The Godley High School Wind Ensemble has earned recognition through the Association of Texas Small School Bands (ATSSB) Outstanding Performance Series (OPS), with its performance of “Ride” advancing to the area round of competition.

The ATSSB Outstanding Performance Series is one of Texas' most prestigious concert band evaluations for Class 1A through 4A schools. The contest allows bands to submit recordings of their performances for additional adjudication by panels of distinguished music educators. Performances advance through region, area and state rounds, with only the highest-scoring selections moving forward at each level.

The Godley Wind Ensemble submitted recordings of all three concert selections:

• "Ride" by Samuel Hazo — 2nd Place, advancing to area competition
• "The Black Horse Troop" by John Philip Sousa — 5th Place
• "Ascent from Darkness" by Rossano Galante — 10th Place

Advancing to the area round places “Ride” among the top concert performances submitted by qualifying Class 4A bands in the region and keeps the ensemble in contention for state-level recognition through the ATSSB adjudication process.

The OPS success adds to an already memorable year for the Wind Ensemble.

Earlier this spring, the ensemble competed at the UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest, performing the same three selections later entered into the Outstanding Performance Series.

The ensemble also performed the same repertoire at the UIL State Wind Ensemble Festival on May 2 at Bates Recital Hall on the campus of The University of Texas at Austin. The festival showcases outstanding concert bands from across Texas in a non-competitive setting focused on musical achievement, artistry and educational excellence.
