Godley High School swimmer Ryan McFarland was first in the Boys 100 Yard Freestyle at the 4A TISCA North Texas swimming competition at the Grapevine-Colleyville ISD Swim Center on December 6-7, 2024.

McFarland won the finals with a time of 50.98 seconds, after advancing from the preliminary round with a second-place finish of 52.19 seconds. Trimming over a second on his time, the GHS junior placed first in a field of 44 swimmers entered in the event. 

In the Boys 100 Yard Backstroke, McFarland placed second with a finals time of 1:00.12 after also finishing second during prelims at 59.58 seconds among 21 contestants. 

The Texas Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association meet featured competitors from 13 schools in Class 4A.

Earlier in the season, McFarland won both events at the Granbury Fall Meet on Oct. 26, posting times of 53.39 seconds in the Boys 100 Yard Freestyle and 59.76 seconds in the Boys 100 Yard Backstroke to best competitors from Aledo, Cleburne and Granbury.

McFarland will next compete at the District 5-4A swim meet on Thursday, Jan. 23 at the Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center’s natatorium in Fort Worth.  In addition to Godley, the swim district includes Benbrook, Fort Worth Carter-Riverside, Fort Worth Dunbar, Fort Worth Southwest, Fort Worth Western Hills and Kennedale.  Following will be the Region II-4A contest on Jan. 31-Feb. 1 at the Frisco ISD Bruce Eubanks Natatorium.

Last year as a sophomore, McFarland made it to state in both Boys 200 Yard Freestyle and the Boys 100 Yard Backstroke.
