Ryan McFarland, a sophomore at Godley High School, is advancing to state in two events from the Region II-4A swim meet on February 2-3, 2024, at Frisco ISD Bruce Eubanks Natatorium.
The GHS sophomore placed first in the Boys 200 Yard Freestyle posting a time of 1:57.86, improving from his finish of 1:58.70 during the preliminary round. McFarland was also third in the Boys 100 Yard Backstroke with a finals time of 59.76 seconds - besting his prelims time of 1:00.13.
McFarland was the District 5-4A champion, winning first place in both events at the district meet on Jan. 19 at the Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center in Fort Worth.
Last year as a freshman, McFarland placed third in the Boys 100 Yard Freestyle and the Boys 100 Yard Backstroke at the regional competition. He also won the district title in both events.
The UIL state meet is Feb. 15-16 at North East ISD’s Josh Davis Natatorium in San Antonio.
