Rus Mayes, head coach of the Godley Ladycat softball team, was among honorees at Tarleton State University’s Legends Game on November 16, 2024, at Tarleton Memorial Stadium in Stephenville.

Mayes was assistant coach for the 2003 Texan Softball team, which hit a milestone for the college program.

According to the university, former Texan Softball head coach Julie Mata led that group to a 41-20 overall record and 16-4 in Lone Star Conference play. They won the LSC South Division Championship and made their first ever NCAA regional appearance.

Mayes worked at Tarleton for nine years and later was head coach in Stephenville before coming to Godley in 2019.
