Godley High School senior Bradley Bearden organized free vaccinations for dogs in conjunction with Godley Mobile Animal Clinic on April 1, 2023, at Godley Middle School.
“Bradley is very passionate about dogs,” commented GHS English teacher Amanda Cloy. Bearden spearheaded the initiative due to his concern about the large number of dogs dumped in the community as well as the number allowed to roam freely.
Bearden partnered with Dr. Mason Irvin, a 2014 Godley graduate and owner of the veterinary clinic. The GHS senior handled publicity and appointments, which were all filled within minutes of his posts on social media.
Twenty-eight dogs received free vaccinations for rabies as well as distemper, parvo and adenovirus. Other fee-based shots and heartworm testing were also available.
The GHS student developed and planned the initiative through an English IV course taught by Cloy, who uses the senior project to help students develop practical skills in technical writing, presentations, interviews and more as they prepare for college and the workforce.
