Godley High School senior Thomas Zach was recently named a Commended Student in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program.  The announcement was made by Principal Kurtis Flood on September 22, 2023, at the high school pep rally.

About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise.  Although they will not continue in the 2024 competition for National Merit scholarships, Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 scorers who entered the 2024 competition by taking the 2022 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success, according to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). These students represent a valuable national resource.  Recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in the nation.

Zach was one of seven Godley seniors who previously earned academic honors from the College Board National Recognition Programs, which celebrate students' hard work in high school and showcase their strong academic performance.

The GHS senior received both the National Rural and Small Town Award (NRSTA) and the National Hispanic Recognition Award (NHRA).  Other Godley seniors receiving the NRSTA were Owen Aramburu, Zackary Blincoe, Camden Flood, Jackson Harry, Jarret Ilich and Jacob Pempsell.
