The Godley Ladycat cross country team advanced to state after placing fourth at the Region II-4A meet on October 24, 2023, at Lynn Creek Park at Joe Pool Lake in Grand Prairie.
Sophomore Stephanie Favela (12:18.55) led the Godley squad and placed 10th individually in the 3.2k race featuring 159 runners and 22 teams. Also on the team were sophomore Makayla Jetton (12:54.35), sophomore Jordan Geesaman (13:15.95), sophomore Sophia Hodges (13:19.00), senior Paola Diaz (13:25.57), freshman Kinzie Riney (13:33.50) and sophomore Sadey Hughey (16:43.95).
The first four teams and the top 10 individuals not already on one of the advancing teams qualify for state.
The Ladycat varsity squad qualified for the regional contest after winning the district championship on Oct. 9 in Waxahachie. Favela was the district champion, with all seven girls placing among the top 14 runners.
Both Favela and Hughey competed at the state competition in 2022, when both were GHS freshmen.
For the boys’ teams, freshman Cy Tennery (18:53.22) competed at regionals individually after advancing from district.
The Class 4A state meet is set for Saturday, Nov. 4 at Old Settler’s Park in Round Rock.
