Godley ISD honored alumnus Cody Waits with military recognition prior to the Godley-Ferris football game on October 6, 2023.
A 1989 graduate of Godley High School, Waits is a U.S. Army veteran who volunteered for service following his high school graduation.
In high school, Waits was an honorable mention all-district lineman in football, played basketball, was a regional qualifier in golf, competed in UIL headline writing, placed third in FFA wildlife judging state competition and was voted most spirited. His school leadership included serving as class officer, FFA district vice president and president.
After graduation, Waits joined the U.S. Army, serving ten years as a reconnaissance specialist reaching the rank of staff sergeant. He served in the Falklands, Kosovo, Macedonia, Bosnia and the Gulf War. As a scout, Waits was dispatched as a forward observer in front of the main troops.
After the army, Cody worked as a deputy project manager for Halliburton in the Middle East. He now runs a business locally, building custom trailers.
The school district regularly honors Godley graduates who served in the United States military. “These brave men and women who selflessly served our country are the embodiment of honor and service,” commented Superintendent Dr. Rich Dear.
