Godley ISD honored alumnus Jody Steward with military recognition prior to the Godley-Benbrook football game on November 3, 2022.

A 1988 graduate of Godley High School, Steward is a U.S. Navy veteran who volunteered for service following his high school graduation.

At GHS, Steward was a linebacker on the football team and served on the yearbook staff. He attended Godley schools from kindergarten and made many lifelong friends.  A highlight was watching the high school girls basketball team win the state championship.

Serving his country was “in his blood,” as Steward’s father served in the military as did his two siblings. The new high school graduate traveled on his first-ever airplane ride to attend boot camp in San Diego.

Steward was attached to the Emory S. Land submarine squad 8, and his tender ship repaired nuclear reactors on subs. “Nothing will make you miss the Texas heat more than working in a submarine bay," he remarked.  “When salt water starts freezing, you know it’s cold!”

After serving four years and reaching the rank of E-3, Steward came home and met his wife, Natalie.  The couple has three children, and two graduated from GHS.

Steward currently is an oil field supervisor and part-time real estate agent, and he volunteers with the American Legion.

The school district regularly honors Godley graduates who served in the United States military. “These brave men and women who selflessly served our country are the embodiment of honor and service,” commented Superintendent Dr. Rich Dear.
