Godley ISD honored alumnus Dr. Amos Holt with military recognition prior to the Godley-Glen Rose football game on October 14, 2022.

A 1958 graduate of Godley High School, Holt served in the U.S. Army for three years, reaching the rank of first lieutenant. Holt was dispatched with the infantry as a forward observer to call in air strikes and artillery to clear the way.

After his military service, Holt earned his master’s degree in physics and a doctorate in computer information sciences. He excelled in research and design for Bell Helicopter and helped develop the first Huey Cobra. Holt specialized in leading his department to develop innovative technology breakthroughs for both civilian and military applications. He later served as vice president for both Southwest Research Institute and Institute Quality Systems, where he served as the executive director of the Continuous Improvement Program. Holt also served as president of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

At GHS, Holt was an all-district end in football, served as captain of both the football and basketball teams, ran track, and also competed on the boxing team.  He also served as business editor on the yearbook staff as well as FFA and class president, and he was voted FHA beau and best personality during his senior year.

Dr. Holt said the absolute best thing about moving to Godley before his freshman year of high school was meeting the love of his life, Caroline Savage. During their sixty years of marriage, they traveled the world together, raised four wonderful children, and made a lifetime of memories. 

The school district regularly honors Godley graduates who served in the United States military. “These brave men and women who selflessly served our country are the embodiment of honor and service,” commented Superintendent Dr. Rich Dear.
