Godley ISD Child Nutrition received an $85,000 grant from the Texas Department of Agriculture to purchase farm fresh food and produce, according to an announcement from the school district on December 15, 2023.

The purpose of the Local Food for Schools (LFS) program is to support local and regional food systems through purchases of unprocessed or minimally processed foods, according to TDA. This grant can help participating entities establish or strengthen connections to Texas farmers, ranchers and small businesses and get more Texas food on students’ trays.

The grant focuses on fruits, vegetables, grains and meat raised or grown in the state, according to Lacey Manuel, director of the GISD program.
