Godley ISD band students enjoyed an exceptional 2025-26 school year, highlighted by state-level performances, historic marching band accomplishments, championship honors, All-Region selections and numerous concerts that showcased student talent across all grade levels.

From the football field to the concert hall, Godley musicians represented their school and community with excellence throughout the year.

Pride of Godley Marches to Historic Season

The Pride of Godley Wildcat Band delivered one of the most successful marching seasons in program history with its 2025 production, EYEconic.

The band earned finalist honors at the US Bands Burleson Showcase, receiving Outstanding Music, Outstanding Visual Effects and Outstanding Color Guard awards. Later in the season, the band was crowned Class 2 Champion at the US Bands Southwestern Championships while also earning Outstanding Music, Outstanding Visual Effects and Outstanding Percussion honors.

At the UIL Region Marching Contest, the Pride of Godley received first-division ratings from all three judges before advancing to the UIL Area Marching Contest finals on Oct. 25, 2025, at C.H. Collins Athletic Complex in Denton.

Competing against 31 schools, Godley finished 12th overall, the highest area placement in school history and just the second time the program advanced to area finals competition.

Drum majors were Isabelle Ortega and Jordyn Geesaman, while Mya Arevalo served as color guard captain.

Students Earn All-Region and Area Recognition

Godley musicians earned numerous individual honors through the Texas Music Educators Association audition process.

At Godley High School, All-Region Band selections were Lesley Rodriguez, Rylie Bax, Raul Garcia, Aiden Hart and Tucker Holzheuser. Bax, Garcia and Hart advanced to the Area round of auditions.

Godley's Region Jazz Band representatives were Raul Garcia, Tucker Holzheuser and John Gillard. All three advanced to the Area Jazz Band auditions.

At Godley Middle School, 15 students earned selection to the Region Band program and performed in the All-Region Band concert on Jan. 17, 2026, at Kennedale High School.

Those students were Hunter Cosper, Jocelyn Drake, Abby Gebrekidan, Connor Teal, Eduardo Victorio, Elijah Wilson, Cheyenne Bills, Silas Brawley, Cooper Day, Timothy Kitchens, Tiphanie Miller, Liam Montgomery, Wyatt Shannon, Piper Sosebee and Jacob Turner.

Students earned their positions through a competitive audition process and participated in a two-day clinic and concert experience with top musicians from across the region.

Winterguard Earns Runner-Up Finish at Championships

The Godley High School Winterguard capped a dominant season with a second-place finish at the NTCA RA Championships on March 21, 2026, at Flower Mound High School.

The Pride of Godley also won its division at competitions hosted by Timber Creek High School, Chisholm Trail High School and Azle High School earlier in the season.

Winterguard combines choreographed movement with music while performers utilize flags, rifles and sabers to create artistic visual productions emphasizing precision, athleticism and expression.

Bands Earn Top Ratings at UIL Concert and Sightreading

Godley High School and Godley Middle School bands earned outstanding ratings at the UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest.

At the high school level, both the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band earned excellent ratings in concert performance and superior ratings in sightreading.

At the middle school level, both the Honors Band and Concert Band earned superior ratings in both concert performance and sightreading.

"Congratulations to all of our amazing student musicians — we are so proud of you!" Walker said.

The UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest is one of the most prestigious evaluations for school music programs in Texas, measuring both prepared performance and the ability to perform unfamiliar music at sight.

Indoor Percussion Finishes Among Region's Best

Godley High School Indoor Percussion concluded its season with a seventh-place finish among 14 ensembles at the North Texas Colorguard Association Percussion Championships on April 11, 2026, at The OC in Forney.

Directed by David Kennedy, the ensemble performed its 2026 production, The Rise of Medusa, and earned a bronze-medal finish earlier in the season at Rowlett High School.

Indoor percussion combines marching percussion performance with theatrical elements, movement and visual design to create an engaging competitive production.

Wind Ensemble Performs on State Stage

The Godley High School Wind Ensemble closed the year with a performance at the UIL State Wind Ensemble Festival on May 2, 2026, at the University of Texas at Austin.

Directed by Joe Walker, the ensemble performed at Bates Recital Hall in the Butler School of Music alongside outstanding bands from across Texas. The prestigious festival is a non-competitive event designed to showcase exceptional musicianship and artistry.

The Wind Ensemble performed:

• "The Black Horse Troop" by John Philip Sousa
• "The Ascent from Darkness" by Rossano Galante
• "Ride" by Samuel Hazo

"Feeling very blessed and thankful to work with the best students, colleagues and friends every single day," Walker said. "The Godley Wind Ensemble had a magical performance at the State Wind Ensemble Festival. Many thanks to my colleagues, parents and families for making this performance happen."

Concerts and Performances Showcase Student Talent

In addition to competitive success, Godley band students shared their talents with the community through numerous performances throughout the year.

Students performed at winter and spring concerts featuring the Godley High School bands, Godley Middle School bands and Godley 6th Grade beginner bands. The annual Night of Fine Arts highlighted student achievement across multiple fine arts disciplines and included performances by the Godley Jazz Band, while the Night of Percussion showcased percussion students from across the district in a combined concert experience.

Band students also participated in a spring break trip to Orlando, Florida, where they visited Walt Disney World and Universal Studios while representing Godley ISD.

As one successful year comes to a close, the Pride of Godley is already preparing for the 2026 marching season. The band's next fall production, "Charging Point!", will continue the program's tradition of innovative visual and musical storytelling as students begin preparations this summer. 

The accomplishments of the 2025-26 school year reflect the dedication of Godley's student musicians, directors and families. The program is led by Joe Walker, director of bands and fine arts director, alongside directors Dallas Teague, David Kennedy, Grayson Hancock and Noah Hancock. Additional instructional staff include colorguard instructor Caleb Hunter, visual technician Edgar Santellanes and interim director Brooke Lane.

From historic marching band achievements and state-level performances to concerts that entertained local audiences, Godley ISD bands continued to demonstrate a strong tradition of musical excellence and student achievement throughout the 2025-26 school year.
