Godley High School students participated in “Start with Hello” Week on September 18-22, 2023.
Each year, thousands of schools and youth organizations nationwide participate in the call-to-action week to empower students to end social isolation by following three easy steps.
Through the awareness week, students learn how to recognize signs of loneliness and social isolation, find out what they can do to help others feel included, and discover how to break the ice and strike up a conversation.
This marks the third year that the GHS student council led the program with great success. Programs such as this only help to support the culture of care already in place at GHS.”
“Start with Hello” is an initiative of the Sandy Hook Promise, a national nonprofit organization founded and led by several family members whose loved ones were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012. The group seeks to empower youth to “know the signs” and unite all people who value the protection of children to take meaningful actions in schools, homes, and communities to prevent gun violence and stop the tragic loss of life.
With implementation of the program, schools report reductions in bullying and other harmful behaviors as well as increased emotional wellness of students through increased connections.
