Godley High School varsity and junior varsity girls claimed district championships at the District 10-4A meet on October 9, 2023, at the Waxahachie Sports Complex.
Varsity girls placed first among the district schools, which include Alvarado, Ferris, Hillsboro, Kennedale, Venus and Waxahachie Life. The first-place squad - along with individual qualifier Cy Tennery for the varsity boys - advances to the Region II-4A competition on Tuesday, Oct. 24 at Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie.
Stephanie Favela led the team with a first-place finish of 12:15.37 in the 3.2k run. Also on varsity were Makayla Jetton (12:54.38, third), Sophia Hodges (13:08.22, seventh), Jordyn Geesaman (13:10.45, eighth), Sadey Hughey (13:21.26, 10th), Kinzie Riley (13:41.52, 12th) and Paolo Diaz (13:55.80, 14th).
The last Godley athlete to win the individual district cross country meet was senior Brandon Hutto in 2018, according to Coach Keith McFarland.
For the JV, Nola Briscoe was the top runner with a time of 14:37.74 to win first. Others on the team were Julyssa Ortiz (14:52.05, second), Emma Lindamood (14:58.59, fourth), Emma Stuck (15:02.03, fifth); Makenzie Hillis (15:12.75, sixth), Jimena Minero (15:18.53, eighth), Madison Stayer (16:10.56, 14th), Kassidi Ferguson (16:21.55, 16th), Veronica Duran (16:35.29, 17th), Emily Enriquez (16:39.52, 18th), Perla Orta (17:02.98, 20th) and Abigail Johnson (19:36.14).
