Godley FFA teams competed in the state contest for  Leadership Development Events competition on December 1-2, 2023, at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville.

Finishing as state semifinalists were two teams:

• Agricultural Advocacy:  (Owen Dickson, Veronica Duran, Taryn Franks, Peyton Haws, Donnette Todey

• Public Relations:  Lila Heiner, Abbey Mathis, Caitlyn White, Logan Wilson

Also competing in the state competition was Makenna Carter in the job interview event.

The students advanced to state from the Area VIII competition last month, with first-place finishes in both job interview and public relations along with a second-place trophy for the agricultural advocacy team.  The public relations team also won the Chisholm Trail District contest, with both agricultural advocacy and job interview placing second.

LDEs focus on creating situations for members to demonstrate their abilities in public speaking, decision making, communication and their knowledge of agriculture and the FFA organization. Team and individual events are used to reinforce what is taught in agricultural science classrooms.
