The Godley FFA public relations team competed at the state Leadership Development Events competition on December 6, 2024, at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville.
The team of Lila Heiner, Ellie Motsios, Landon Tarwater and Caitlyn White finished 15th among 375 teams across the state.
The foursome placed second at the Area VIII contest on Nov. 22 in Hillsboro. The squad was first in the Chisholm Trail District competition on Nov. 13 in Cleburne. More than 7,400 entries began the statewide-tournament in 15 different events which reflect classroom instruction in basic leadership skills, according to the Texas FFA Association.
LDEs focus on creating situations for members to demonstrate their abilities in public speaking, decision making, communication and their knowledge of agriculture and the FFA organization. Team and individual events are used to reinforce what is taught in agricultural science classrooms.
The Texas FFA is the nation’s largest state FFA association with a membership of more than 177,000 active FFA members. FFA programs teach skills in leadership, career development and personal growth. FFA gives students the opportunity to practically apply classroom knowledge to real-world experiences through local, state and national competitions.
