Godley High School varsity girls and boys teams are advancing to regionals from the District 12-4A meet on October 7, 2024, at Wallace Park in Hillsboro.

Varsity girls placed first among the district schools, which include Alvarado, Ferris, Hillsboro, Kennedale, Venus and Waxahachie Life.  The first-place squad advances to the Region II-4A competition on Monday, Oct. 21 at Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie.

The Ladycats advance to regionals for the seventh straight season.  This marks their third district title in a row - and the fourth in the last six seasons.  Junior Stephanie Favela won second to lead the Ladycats, with Sophia Hodges, Makayla Jetton and Sadey Hughey also scoring top-ten spots.  Favela, Hodges and Hughey along with Julyssa Ortiz and Kinzie Riney were on last year’s team competing at the Class 4A state meet.  Both Favela and Hughey were state competitors in 2022, when both were GHS freshmen.

Godley varsity boys finished section to advance to regionals as a team for the first time since 2009 - and the first time since the school moved into Class 4A.  Cy Tennery, who advanced to regionals last year individually, led the squad with a third-place finish.  Teammates Jonah Wood and Ryan Jones also placed in the top ten.

  • Varsity Boys 5K Run (second):  Cy Tennery (17:25.02, third), Jonah Wood (17:37.19, fifth), Ryan Jones (17:48.66, eighth), Jaxon Hill (18:29.17, 14th), Landon Bell (18:38.41, 17th), Wyatt Cheek (19:08.97), Angel Montalvo (20:27.82)

Junior varsity girls scored a perfect 15 points to claim the district title, with Ladycat runners winning the top five places as well as placing eight in the top ten.  Dillan Akridge was the district champion, with Madison Leonhardt, Presley Hindash, Julyssa Ortiz, Linda Synovcova, Eden Kelly, Braely Lee and Halle Gross also posting top-ten finishes to help the JV girls win the first-place trophy.

The JV boys placed second as a team, with Josue Arvizu, Cameron Rosser, Jhayden Nays and Shawn Warren finishing in the top ten.
