Godley High School cheerleaders advanced to the finals in the UIL Spirit State Championships on January 13, 2023, at the Fort Worth Convention Center.
The GHS girls finished 13th among 51 schools competing in Class 4A Division II. They made the finals featuring the top 20 squads for the second year in a row.
According to the UIL, spirit is an extracurricular activity that focuses on the traditional game day role cheerleaders have on the sidelines and in schools supporting athletic teams. At the state event, schools compete in three categories: crowd leading, fight song and band dance.
The 2022-23 cheer squad is led by captain Symphany Grier and co-captain Cate Heiner. Members are Sydney Allen, Peyton Bower, Cale Broyles, Delaney Coym, Emily Falter, Dallas Lane, Abbey Mathis, Alyssa Owen, Sarah Payne, Tess Scogins, Allison Stinson, Zoie Switzer, Marleigh Thompson, Gracie Wheeler, Catherine Whitfield. Managers are Amiya Edwards and Faith Hughes.
Cheer coaches are Dana Burke and Amanda Musselman.
