The Godley High School and Godley Middle School bands earned superior ratings and sweepstakes honors at UIL concert and sightreading competition on March 6, 2025, at Glen Rose High School.

GHS’s Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band both earned Division I ratings from all judges for both stage and sightreading performances.  Combined with the fall marching award, the ensembles achieved sweepstakes for the school year. 


For Godley Middle School, the Honor Band earned superior ratings from all judges for both concert and sightreading.  The Concert Band received an excellent rating for their concert program and a superior rating in sightreading.

Programs for the Godley groups were:

  • GHS Wind Ensemble:  The Washington Post (John Philip Sousa), Rapture (Balmages), Themes from Green Bushes (Grainger/Daehn)
  • GHS Symphonic Band:  Heroes Triumphant (Owens), Rio Bravo (Watson), Newcastle March (Vinson)
  • GMS Honor Band:  March to Castle Rock (Hodges), Lion's Gate (Sheldon), Blue Comet  (Vargas)
  • GMS Concert Band:  Blackthorn March (Randall Standridge), Summit Fanfare  (William Owens), Dark Star (Christina Huss)

GHS and GMS band directors are Joe Walker, Michelle Slayton, Grayson Hancock, David Kennedy and Noah Hancock.
