Godley High School and Godley Middle School band students earned top marks at the UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest, showcasing their musical excellence across multiple performances.

The high school contest was held March 30, 2026, at Eagle Mountain High School, while the middle school contest took place March 31–April 1, 2026, at Glen Rose High School.

At the high school level, both ensembles earned strong marks, receiving excellent ratings for concert performance and superior ratings in sightreading.

The Godley High School Wind Ensemble, directed by Joe Walker, performed “The Black Horse Troop” (John Philip Sousa/Frederick Fennell), “The Ascent from Darkness” (Rossano Galante) and “Ride” (Samuel R. Hazo).

The Godley High School Symphonic Band, directed by Grayson Hancock, performed “Reverberations” (Brian Balmages), “Tanchozuru” (Randall D. Standridge) and “March of the Freedom Fighters” (Tyler S. Grant).

At the middle school level, both bands earned superior ratings in both concert and sightreading performances.

The Godley Middle School Honors Band, directed by Grayson Hancock, performed “Darklands March” (Randall D. Standridge), “Sketches of Canada” (Michael Story) and “Byzantine Dances” (Carol Brittin Chambers).

The Godley Middle School Symphonic Band, directed by Noah Hancock, performed “Armory” (Randall D. Standridge), “Courtlandt County Festival” (Anne McGinty) and “Fallbrook March” (John O’Reilly).

“Congratulations to all of our amazing student musicians — we are so proud of you!” said Director of Bands Joe Walker.

The UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest is one of the most prestigious evaluations for school music programs in Texas, assessing both prepared performance and the ability to perform new music at sight. Godley ISD bands continue to demonstrate a strong tradition of musical excellence through their consistent success at the event.
