Godley High School graduate Erica Ramirez obtained full-time employment with ACS Bank following a high school internship through the career and technical education program.
Ramirez, a 2022 GHS graduate, works on the inside teller line and frequently is on duty during Saturday morning hours at the bank. Her high school internship provided connections and training that allowed her to be an ideal candidate for a permanent position.
“ACS Bank has very much enjoyed working with Godley High School on the student internship program,” commented Robert Lemons, Senior Vice President for ACS Bank Godley. “GISD is doing a great job of preparing students for their future, and Erica has become a tremendous asset for the bank. I feel that it has been a “win-win” as Erica has grown and matured professionally and the bank has benefited immensely by having her as an employee. We look forward to continuing this partnership.”
Business internships are available through career preparation, which provides opportunities for students to participate in a learning experience that combines classroom instruction with paid business and industry employment experiences and supports strong partnerships among school, business and community stakeholders. The practicum is designed to give students supervised practical application of previously studied knowledge and skills. Practicum experiences occur in a paid or unpaid arrangement and in a variety of instructional settings.
“Erica was one of my best students ever,” said GHS teacher Jane Cook, who oversees graphic design, commercial photography and career prep classes. “She was recognized as having the highest grade point average in both graphic design and career prep. In addition to completing her work for class she took on many projects for students and teachers, many times using her lunch to get things done. Students often relied on Erica for support, and she was a mentor inside and outside of class.”
